H2Oarts' second project at Westfield (now Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield) University Town Center in La Jolla, CA is an Interactive installation called Surfside. Originally designed by CMS Collaborative to emulate waves using real time data, it now runs a variety of playful pre-programmed geometrical shapes and sequences across a grid of 10 closely-spaced rows, each with 6 open nozzles and its own pump. H2Oarts employed a novel approach to generating DMX output...an Excel spreadsheet with input fields for variables. The Excel output is imported into H2Oarts' MAPS application for playback. The result is precision forms without the tedium and error potential of manual authoring! The fountain was constructed by Pacific Aquascape of Fountain Valley, CA, and Crystal Fountains supplied the RGB LED fixtures and clear-stream nozzles.
